Houstonians Party in 80’s Best to Beat Women’s Cancer Pink Door’s Annual Gala gets retro twist

A delightful crowd was “pretty in pink” for Pink Door’s 12th Annual Gala at Hotel Derek on Friday, November 9th. Pink Door’s chic, feminine event has been benefiting women cancer patients and survivors since 2007, and the anticipated evening never disappoints.

The 80’s-themed bash began with a buzzy cocktail hour that featured an impressive display of fun auction items. Included in the auction lineup were lavish vacation packages to Cabo San Lucas and Costa Rica, autographed memorabilia from Houston sports hall-of-famers JJ Watt and George Springer, and gorgeous jewelry from Frieda Rothman and Kendra Scott.

Following a glass or two of champagne, guests made their way to the luxe dining room, where co-chairs Nikki Howard and Christina Sacco welcomed guests to the stylish event. Each seat was made complete by a phonograph record that served as a place-setting for each party-goer. The evening’s honorees, Houston Methodist’s Dr. Jenny Chang, Memorial Hermann/UT Govern Medical School’s Dr. Anneliese Gonzalez, Midtown Family Medicine’s Dr. Roland Maldonado, Survivor Lou Richardson, and MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Alyssa Rieber – were recognized during a fabulous three-course meal. Each honoree was selected for their significant impact in the lives of Houston-area patients and their families, as well as a fervent dedication to beat cancer.

The lively affair raised over $162,000 for this year alone, and Pink Door looks forward to raising more. “We are hoping to raise double this amount next year,” said Founder Courtney Cole-Hall. With a crowd this excited about a worthwhile cause, we’re sure they will achieve this goal.
