Honk To Stop Violence

Honk To Stop Violence

Hundreds of Indian Americans gathered last weekend to not just enjoy Indian snacks and desi dhol beats but to stand up together against domestic violence. “Honk to stop violence”, “Our children deserve safer homes” and “Love is not abuse”, these were the signs that volunteers and supporters of Daya carried as they formed a human chain on Hillcroft’s Mahatma Gandhi District.

One Voice Against Domestic Violence was Daya’s sixth annual successful outdoor event held in partnership with the Houston Police Department to bring awareness to family violence in South Asian communities. Supporting the event were many HPD Officers, Houston’s prominent Indian Americans and even victims who managed to get assistance from DAYA and stand up on their own feet. That was a true sign of success when everyone stands united against such issues like domestic violence which is considered such a taboo in South Asian families.

Lights Camera Action correspondent Ruchi Mukherjee was at the scene to capture all the details. Watch the video story by Lights Camera Action to know more about the event.
