IIM USA Blazing New Trails & Lawn Spring/Summer Exhibit at Poshak

It was a room filled with high energy and entrepreneurial skills as IIM USA hosted their inaugural annual Texas convention, IIMpulse 2012, in Houston. The Indian Institutes of Management is the premier graduate business school of India.

The conference held at University of St.Thomas was themed ‘Blazing New Trails’ with keynote speaker, Kirk Coburn, co-founder & managing director, SURGE Accelerator, held the audience spellbound as he shared his experiences in this technology dependent world. The conference also featured presentations, panel discussions, and one-on-one interaction with speakers. “There’s a strong bond and connection between IIT and IIM students and alumni. About a third of IIM alumni are IIT graduates,” says Pradeep Anand. “When plans were being made for the inaugural IIMpulse Texas conference in Houston, Ashima Jain, IIM USA President, was referred to me by the IIT Bombay organization in Silicon Valley. We felt that IIT alumni would also benefit from the proceedings of the conference on Blazing New Trails,” he adds.

Pradeep Anand’s involvement was to be part of the team to assure the overall success of the conference, get the keynote speaker, interest IIT alumni and other Houstonians to attend the conference, and participate as a panelist. Certainly Anand played a successful role as the conference did display a great turn out.

Hon’ble Consul General Sanjiv Arora proceeded to inaugurate the conference and he stated that the IIMs represented some of the best business schools globally and he was honored to inaugurate this high powered conference that was attended by some of the finest minds in the world.

This inaugural conference was a success with some incredible speakers, sharing leading edge knowledge. Additionally, the schedule facilitated the audience to mingle in meaningful ways. Most important, the event was executed flawlessly, logistical details of the conference were efficiently processed by University of St. Thomas’ Prof. Beena George, an IIM Calcutta alumnus.

Amongst the speakers were Anurag Kumar, Vistage CEO Executive Coach & CEO of ITexico, Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, President, University of West Georgia, Debjani Biswas, Director, Pepsico (Frito Lay), and our very own Pradeep Anand, President & Founder, Seeta Resources, emphasized that tenacity is critical to success.

Plans are underway to continue IIMpulse Texas, with Dallas as next year’s venue. IIMpulse is also supported by IITAGH and TiE-Houston.

While we get a dose of intellectual conversation let’s get our fashion fix. Houston’s Poshak Boutique on Hilcroft hosted the 2012 Lawn Spring/Summer Collection. Fashion Designer Sameera Faridi informed that the lawn collection is an inception from the basic spring cotton, chiffon wear. Friends, supporters and clients of Sameera enjoyed the vibrant use of yellows by Asim Jofa. Designer Nadia Hussain’s color palette ranged from light blue to black and whites. Gul Ahmed’s collection highlighted the subdued light shades of peach with black borders. The collection had something for everyone with an exciting display of long tunics by the famous THREADZ.

“This season the desi style is very chic and trendy with long tunics with churridars or tights. The chiffon dupattas (scarfs) are a must haves, they add sophistication to your look,” shares Sameera Faridi, designer/owner of Poshak.
