Houston’s Leading and Growing
It was Valentine’s Day eve and the Junior League of Houston was bustling with party goers passionate for education. Chair Nancy was dazzling in a Alice and Olivia asymmetrical flare gown with husband Jose Almodovar hosted Learn Grow Lead’s 2nd annual gala, themed Give Your Hearts to Education. It was an evening that conveyed a message of romance, gratitude and community driven activities.
Founded in 2011, Learn Grow Lead believes that all children deserve to have the opportunity to attend school and have a better quality of life. Co-Founder and Board Chairman Anika Jackson early in her career got introduced to the Cape Coast in Ghana, Africa and other countries around the world where the need to serve kids was greater than ever. “Through the support of our community, sponsors and friends, we’re able to work with other organizations to help pay for needs surrounding poverty and education,” said Anika Jackson.
In addition, the organization focuses on housing, food, transportation, healthcare and sustainability of partner organizations. As an all-volunteer organization, the funds raised go directly to serving their mission and vision. Proceeds from this gala event would benefit Learn Grow Lead’s community project in progress with Children Helpers Foundation (CHF), Ghana, as well as expand projects in other parts of the world. The evening honored Tyler, Ethan and Ashton Kao, brothers and founders of The Awesome Fund, as well as Abacus Wealth Financial for its generosity and continued support through the years.
Keeping with the spirit of love month, children and volunteers were spotted walking around offering red roses to raise additional funds for the organization. Gala chair Nancy Almodovar, NAN & Co Properties CEO spoke to LCA Houston International Society News about her passion for causes that supported children and education. “I strongly believe in education and I always strive to share that one should never give up on your dreams. You really can achieve anything if you put your mind to it,” explains Almodovar.
Amongst the glam squad spotted celebrating love for education were: Anika Jackson, Dr. Sippi and Ajay Khurana, Mandy Kao, Lisa Powers, Dena Winkler, Michael Pearce and Matt Burrus, Gina Li, Leona Chen, Layla Asgari, Cindy Cheng, and many others.
