A Slice of London in Houston
Dreading the mid-town traffic on the way home after long, hot, tiring, Houston work day? Or perhaps, you need a drink after a particularly awful round of golf. Lucky for you, the Red Lion British Pub is the prefect place to get away from it all, and frankly, any excuse will do!
Known for it’s impressive collection of Scotch, the Red Lion also offers a wide array of beers, wine, and spirits, as any British pub should. But what sets this pub apart, is the unbelievably, amazing, and authentic selection of “pub food” that is anything but.
From the classic fish and chips, to scotch eggs, to Indian curries, the entire spectrum of the British Empire is reflected in the menu. The offerings are long and complex. Normally I’d be wary of such an extensive list of dishes. There’s no way anyone could get that many dishes right and remain authentic to taste. Right? Wrong. One taste of the Indian curry, and I wanted call my mother up and let her know how disappointed I was in my Indian upbringing. Seriously, it put her’s to shame. Authentic, and then some!
My vegetarian friend accompanied me on this tasting, and he was impressed by the number of dishes available for him. There’s really something for everyone and every taste. It was impossible to try everything, so I know I’ll be back to sample more of the menu. The Red Lion is open till 1am and features a late night bites special, so it’s a great place for an after-party gathering or a corporate holiday event. If you’re looking for the perfect local watering hole, then head over to the Red Lion British Pub.
