River Oaks Country Club Hosts Families Luncheon
Family Houston, one of the most established social services agencies in the Greater Houston area, honored its retiring CEO Nyla K. Woods at its Celebration of Families Luncheon. Held at the River Oaks Country Club, the luncheon focused on the many Family Houston programs that flourished under Ms. Woods’ vision and guidance.
ABC-13 news anchor Tom Koch opened the program. Reverend Anthony McClendon, who currently serves on the Family Houston Board of Directors, gave a blessing. Jennifer Gravenor, Family Houston board member and event chair, presented a proclamation from the city declaring March 1st as “Nyla K. Woods Day.”
Locke Bryan, Family Houston board member, presented a series of videos highlighting the agency’s impact and achievements. Mr. Bryan produced the videos as an in-kind donation to the organization. Mr. Bryan then introduced the agency’s new leadership, Executive Chairman Helen Vollmer and CEO Charly Weldon.
Anna Babin, President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Houston, and John Boerstler, Executive Director of NextOp, delivered remarks about Ms. Woods’ leadership and Family Houston’s role in the city’s social safety net. Ms. Woods was presented with gifts from Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee and the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities.
The Family Houston Board of Directors presented Ms. Woods with a beautiful pin featuring six varieties of gems in the shape of the agency’s logo. Ms. Woods delivered closing remarks and thanked the agency’s staff, board, supporters, community partners, and clients for 24 years of memories.
