Decked in Glitter
Katie Decker is one of a kind and likes to design her jewelry that way too. What started off as a small project, has taken wind as her stunning pieces can now be found in 12 stores across the country. People are taking notice of her gorgeous designs and even First Lady Michelle Obama has been seen wearing her items.
Katie is well traveled and draws inspiration from all over the world. One country in particular is India; whose architecture and rich culture interests her. Some of this can be seen in her newest collection of gold chains and pendents. She starts by getting inspiration from what she sees, then draws a design and sees where it goes from there.
“I love to travel and I am inspired by all sorts of places I have been, even places I have not been but would love to go,” says Katie.
Her latest collection is all shades of gold, from rose to white to yellow. Rather than designing matching sets, Katie focuses on creating pieces that work together and can be used to mix and match with different pieces. Between her delicate chains and chunky bracelets, there is a variety of styles and choices.
This fashion forward lady is taking Houston’s fashion scene by storm. Her last big trunk show, 5 Golden Rings took place December 18-20 in collaboration with Zadok Jewelers and was a great success.
LCA sat down with Katie to get a little fashion insight from her.
Give us a tip on looking chic this holiday season.
I love neutral color combos in the fall and winter – camel and gray, black and white, even army green. All of these colors are perfect for combining warm gold jewelry with cozy knits, boots and streamlined jackets. Layer on some yellow gold necklaces or stack bracelets for a chic, “go-anywhere” outfit.
What inspired you to design jewelry?
I have had a love of art and design since I was young. It has always been a passion of mine; however, I did not consider jewelry as a creative outlet until later in life. It was not until I was older and began collecting jewelry of my own that I realized I could design the style I wanted to wear. Classic, yet unique and modern. Jewelry that could be worn day or night and layered together to create different looks.
Do you think Houston is fashion forward?
Most definitely! Houston women are some of the chicest around – we know how to dress in every kind of weather. Rain or shine, 100 degrees or freezing rain. I think Houstonians are very cultured and creative people. You do not see everyone wearing the same trend at any given time. There is lots of individual style out there.
Get ahead of the trend and score some of Katie Decker’s jewelry before you start seeing it everywhere. Her items are specifically designed to be versatile and transition easily from day to night. Deck the halls and deck yourself out too with this fun new line.
