Staci Henderson represents many things that Houston has to offer. This woman wears many hats, and all of them are fabulous. She is a busy and devoted mother, yet somehow finds time to run marathons between running errands. She works tirelessly for a Houston based charity and looks stunning throughout all of it. We love Staci’s vibrant personality, and it definitely shines through in her wardrobe. This lady dresses in whimsy and color and no one does it better.
Lights Camera Action’s international correspondent, Ruchi Mukherjee sat down at Houston’s fashionable hot spot Mariposa in Neiman Marcus for a rendezvous with Staci Henderson.
What inspires you about fashion?
I’m a free spirit and that is reflected in the way I mix colors, patterns and textures. I am obsessed with vintage, not only because of the style, but because of the history the piece carries with it. I imagine what the original owner was like and what fabulous places she visited while wearing the garment. I believe an honest appraisal of what works on your body and a great tailor are more important than the designer or the cost of an item.
What’s in Staci’s closet?
I do have a few favorite designers, and I love discovering new ones. I adore vintage Victor Costa and Emilio Pucci. Amongst the contemporary designers I love Nha Kahn, Alexander McQueen and House of Holland. I need plenty of sparkle, color and prints all at once. So when it comes to shoes and handbags its Miu Miu. You’ll never catch me in beige. I love a classic look on others, just not me. I think I’m whimsical, but my husband likes to refer to my style as ‘artsy’.
You would not step out of the house without?
I won’t leave the house without spritzing Angel perfume by Thierry Mugler. I’ve worn it for 20 years and I still get compliments on it all the time. I never get tired of it. My most prized possessions are four little post it notes my children wrote their one dream for the future on 6 years ago. They’ve never left my wallet. They are now stained and dog eared… but I must carry them with me all the time.
You are walking the ramp for The Women’s Home. How exciting. What’s next?
I’m extremely excited and honored to be walking the runway for The Women’s Home this year. I’ve gotten a sneak peak at the clothing and the divine items people have donated are totally swoon worthy. The Women’s Home is such a deserving organization, and I’ve worked hard this year to raise money through donations and an online auction of my own.
On Sept 19th I’m co-chairing a private fundraiser in my home entitled the “Love to Give Back Affair.” Proceeds benefit Love146, and we are striving to raise awareness of the sex trafficking of children right here in Houston. Prevention education is the key to keeping children safe from predators. As a woman and a mother it is a cause I am passionate about.
What’s the secret to your fitness?
I’ve been an avid runner for 26 years. I’ve completed 6 marathons, and last year I placed first in my age group in the Bahamas Marathon in Nassau. That said, at my age I’ve had to accept I can’t eat the way I used to. Two things I won’t give up are my morning chai and my evening wine. It’s all about balance, because if you are chasing perfection, you’ll ultimately be disappointed. Oh… and robes. I have a real thing for leopard robes, all lengths and fabrics. When you don’t see me out dressed up, I’m in one of them. My kids just roll their eyes. When running late, I’ve been known to drive through the school carpool lane while wearing one.(Chuckles)
