An Italian Feast
By Sandeep Khandelwal
Damian’s Cucina Italiana recently hosted a “Walk Around Tasting” featuring San Felice Agricola Wines in Damian’s recently added dining room located above the main restaurant.
Known for their amazingly authentic Italian cuisine, Damian’s did not disappoint with their hors d’oeuvres. Guests enjoyed Spinach and Sausage Frittatas, Ziti with Mushrooms and Pomodoro, Caramelized Onion Tarts, Stoffa Pestri, Tomato Caprese Skewers, and a selection of meats and cheeses. The tarts were exceptionally good with an unexpected sweetness that paired well with the wines.
The highlight of the evening was a selection of wines imported directly from Agricola San Felice in the Tuscany region of Italy. Located just a few miles from Siena, the winery is actually a small hamlet which has been transformed partly into a 43 room charming hotel. Comprised of 140 hectares of vineyards, they produce 278 distinct varieties of grapes resulting in a range of whites and reds.
Francesco Riviera, North & South America Ambassador at Società showcased and discussed the vineyard’s craft and wines. Guests had a chance to sample the 2008 Brunello di Montalcino, 2011 Rosa di Montalcino, and the 2008 Il Grigio Chianti Classico, among others. Each was a unique deep ruby red and full bouquet.
Though the food were excellent, and the wines are available exclusively through Spec’s Liqueur, one couldn’t help but to think what it would be like to be able to sip their wine at their hotel in Italy, overlooking the Tuscany countryside, while dining on plate of bolognese. Maybe if I close my eyes…
