Fashionista of the Month | Alex Blair
Spotted looking gorgeous at the Lights Camera Action’s International Mothers’ Day Soiree at Neiman Marcus, Alex Blair is sophisticated and smart with a very genuine smile. Born in Aracaju, Brazil, this beautiful demure fashionista studied Geology at University Federal of Ceara. After moving to Houston, she met her wonderful husband Astley and worked at Petrobras America. At present she and her husband are very busy as they are the Chairs for the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) Opening Night to be held on October 24th. She is also a board member of Recipe for Success, involved with the Let the Fashion Begin Charity, and the University of St. Thomas Performing Arts Society.
She is passionate about fashion and dancing and her beautiful smile and down to earth persona makes her admired by many. “I love honesty and so I am very frank with people. I don’t consider myself a philanthropic person, I am just trying to help whenever I can,” she explains with a smile.
Lights Camera Action Houston Society News Host Ruchi Mukherjee sat down with Alex Blair to know more about her style.
Lets kick start this fall fashion season of galas, parties and events. You are constantly on the go at many fabulous balls and night outs. How do you decide your outfits and who are your favorite designers?
Yes, indeed the gala season is a very busy time for my husband and me. I decide my gowns based upon the Ball I am attending. It all depends if it is a white tie or black tie Ball. For the 2014 UNICEF Ball I am going to wear a exclusive Ema Savahl dress from her Paris runway collection and at the HGO Opening Night I’m still indecisive (she chuckles). My favorite designers are Ema Savahl, Tabolt Runhof (German Designer), Save the Queen, Marchesa and Catherine Walker. For other evening events I try to be simple and classy.
What’s in your closet?
I love to collect clutches and love to accessorize my outfits with a nice clutch or handbag, it doesn’t have to be a designer label always. I tend to incline towards the look on me. My closet is filled with a variety of clothes, shoes, and handbags from various local and international designers. I have lots of good casual every day wear pieces from BCBG, Ted Baker, Nicole Miller and Isabel de Pedro. I love pencil skirts, I have them in all colors. My favorite pieces are my cocktail dresses and corsets from Ema Savahl and my Jewelry.
You will not step out of the house without?
I love my car and I will not step out without Clive Christian.
Your favorite shopping places in Houston?
I don’t like to shop much at departmental stores and so I am constantly looking for new boutiques in Houston. My favorite boutique in town is BB1 Classic in Uptown Park, you cannot go wrong with their amazing customer service and the exclusive pieces that Calli brings from around the world are just all my favorites.
I have heard a lot of great things about Mio Boutique but I haven’t got a chance to visit yet, however I went to Mio’s website and I really liked their colors and clothing style, I am looking forward to check out the fall collection Mio Boutique has to offer. Congratulations to the beautiful owner Claudia Ayala.
