Society Parties | Club 24 Celebrates an Evening of Philanthropy
On the eve of Mother’s Day, about 130 guests gathered at the West University home of Drs. Aparna and Ashish Kamat to celebrate an evening of giving hosted by Club 24. The organization Club 24 was founded some eight years ago as a Social & Recreational club with the mission of building bridges and connecting with the mainstream community of Houston. The Club’s underlying principles are Philanthropy and Outreach.
It was a fun filled evening with a philanthropic mission with a powerhouse executive committee: Nat Krishnamurthy, Rakesh Joshi, Ashok Garg, Asha Dhume, Madhavi Kavadi,Kiran Gupta, Dr Vivek Kavadi, and Pradeep Gupta. The highlight of a Club 24 evening is the distribution of the checks to the nine charities that were honored. This year the organization has big plans with 2014 President Asha Dhume, who strongly believes in serving the community.
With high profile guests like Attorney Rusty Hardin and Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, this year Mrs. Dhume reported, that Club 24 has raised $123,780. The nine benefiting charities were: Avondale House, Easter Seals, Memorial Spring Branch Rotary Charities, Pratham, Ekala Vidyalaya, Houston Public Media, Ovarcome, Tahirih Justice Center, and Magic Bus.
The evening concluded with a scrumptious dinner by Dawat Catering, the Club also made an effort to recognize a community leader and mother Leela Krishnamurthy. Leela was also recognized by Easter Seals recently for her significant contributions to the community at their “Hats off to Mother’s event” at the River Oaks Country Club.
