APAHA embraces Culture, Fashion and Style | Asian Month Celebration comes to an end with a Grand Gala
It was a privilege to co-emcee the Asian Pacific American Heritage Association (APAHA) kick-off celebration on April 27, 2013, at the Houston Galleria Mall along side ABC Channel 13 Anchor Miya Shay. The month of May is recognized as the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. In observance of the culturally significant dedication, the Asian Pacific American Heritage Association (APAHA) hosted a kick-off event where a huge crowd stopped by to witness the Asian Pacific cultural program abundant with music, dance, and a sizzling fashion show highlighting the up and coming South Asian and East Asian fashion designers of Houston.
The crowd enjoyed an extensive display of performances by Miss Chinatown USA – Second Princess, Anna Zhang; Lee’s Golden Dragon Dance; Tropical Rhythms; Indian classical dance by Anjali Center for Performing Arts; Infused Performing Arts; and Vietnamese Martial Arts, to name a few. However, event chairs Sneha Merchant and Betty Gee along with many others, called the fashion show the hallmark feature of the event.
The cultural program highlighted the talents of Houston’s Asian designers, Hanh Tran, Tanaz Choudhury, Noureen Dhanani, Sameera Faridi, Simran Rihal and Uzo Umbrellas, all of who created exclusive pieces for the APAHA kick-off.
The Asian Pacific American Heritage Month came to a close with a gala event on Friday May 31, 2013 at the Omni Hotel with a very sophisticated crowd of Houston’s political leaders, elected officials, socialites, philanthropists, and other VIPs. Gala chair Mariam Issa along with many volunteers and supporters produced a fabulous evening with cultural dances, fashion show and mini bazaar set up by Poshak Boutique.
Spotted at the 21st Annual APAHA Gala were: Congressman Al Green, Officer Adrian Garcia, Miya Shay and Gene Wu, Adriane Garcia, Sonia Azad, Christina Zhou, Sneha Merchant, Mandy Kao, Sippi Singh, Azra Rauf, Kanchan Shergill Singh, Anas Ahmed and Sameera Faridi, Tanaz and Chelsey Choudhury, Alex Blair, Lora Chivers, and many others.
