Spirit of Spring Luncheon – New Beginnings With The Children’s Assessment Center
A fashionable luncheon was hosted by The Children’s Assessment Center with spring fashion trends, but that’s not what grabbed the audience’s attention, the story of guest speaker/author Erin Merryn, who poured her heart out about her childhood sexual abuse and her mission to shatter the silence of many such victims demanded a standing ovation. Erin Merryn is the author of ‘Stolen Innocence’ and ‘Living For Today’, both memoirs about incest and rape.
She stole our hearts at the luncheon as she walked dauntlessly into the Westin Galleria Ballroom filled with more than 300 guests speaking fearlessly about her traumatic childhood ordeals that empowered her to be strong and end the silence and shame around sexual abuse. She is the force behind getting her own law passed, called Erin’s Law in 2013. The law will educate children in public schools on sexual abuse.
Erin was very thankful to The Children’s Assessment Center for their dedicated work and continued efforts for 20 years with children and families of Harris County whose lives have been traumatized by sexual abuse, and bringing strength and hope into their broken hearts. It has been estimated that CAC serves nearly 5,000 clients each year. Breaking the silence is the first step in the healing process.
To keep the spirit going and joining hands to put together a great event for the 14th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion were a team of extraordinary event chairs, Ursaline Hamilton, Stephanie Perkins and Megan Sutton-Reed. Also spotted joining the guests list for this fun filled luncheon were: Pily Simon, Ashlee Lee, Edward Sanchez, Roi Alan, Reyne Hirsch, Hanh Tran, Miya Shay, Gabriela Dror, Jacquie Baly, Diane Caplan, Rita Garcia, Gina Gaston (emcee), Stephen Lewis, Susan Boggio, and many others.
