Pakistan Literacy Fund Gala Raises Awareness and Lights Camera Action Spots the Best Dressed Divas
Women in decadent Pakistani evening wear along with their husbands and friends gathered at the Renaissance Hotel on Friday evening to support CARE Foundation Pakistan in providing a free quality marketable education to the children of Pakistan.
The gala was successfully hosted by Azra Faruqui and the Pakistan Literacy Fund, also adding special glamor to the evening was ABC 13 Reporter Sonia Azad who volunteered her time to emcee the event as it served such a noble cause. The event kicked-off with a reception followed by a silent auction and sales of handicrafts and designer Pakistani jewelery and outfits.
What kept everyone glued to the seats was the powerful talk by the keynote speaker for the gala Seema Aziz, an entrepreneur and social activist, who has been working for the cause of education in Pakistan since 1988. Seema has studied from the University of Punjab and Harvard Business School. Being actively involved in improving the educational opportunities for the children of Pakistan, she is on the board of multiple government and private bodies. She is the Founder and Chairperson of CARE Foundation, the largest non-governmental organization in Pakistan, educating more than 160,000 students through 231 schools.
Guests enjoyed Mezban’s delicious briyani and chicken tikka kababs while raising funds. However Lights Camera Action Houston Society News had their eyes on Who Wore What and spotted these three Best Dressed Divas: Azra Shariff Rauf, Tehmina Masud and Sehr Charania.
Long kurta or tunics were in vogue as Azra Shariff Rauf wore a deep blue brocade outfit, Tehmina’s black kurta with gold embellishments with animal print accents was eye catching. Sehr, a designer by hobby, wore her line which she describes as very modern with an ethnic touch – A Show Stopper!
