High Society with Deepak Chopra – LCA Spots Top 5 Fabulous Divas at the Akshaya Patra Foundation Gala
More than 500 people from the high society of Htown gathered at the Westin Galleria Hotel on Sunday, September 9th for the Akshaya Patra Foundation’s evening fundraiser in Houston. Ladies were decked up in saris, cocktail dresses and other ethnic Indian wear to support the great cause but the excitement was focused on Deepak Chopra.
The serene Indian classical music of sitar set the ambiance during the reception hour, where guests were passionately taking turns to pose with Dr. Chopra. The hype and excitement was to hear advisory board member, Deepak Chopra, and about his involvement with the Akshaya Patra Foundation. The spiritual healer and author did manage to inspire the audience and help raise over $525,000.
Overall a very successful evening with an opportunity to support the pioneering efforts of Akshaya Patra in helping not only India, but with the potential for the program to be replicated globally. Event chairs, Philamena and Arthur Baird, Anuradha and Mani Subramanian, Nidhika and Pershant Mehta and Leena and Ash Shah, welcomed an eclectic group of Houstonians. Honorary chairs, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett were spotted enjoying a inspirational talk by Dr. Deepak Chopra as he reassured that happiness was the key to success and in giving to others one could find true happiness.
The fashion scene was in full Bollywood style as Nidhika flaunted her Designer Sabyasachi lehenga (long Indian style skirt), Yasmine Haddad wore a long tunic style dress by Deepak Perwani along with a stunning head piece, Mandy Kao looked gorgeous in a hot pink sari, Asia Society Executive Director Martha Blackwelder graceful in a cotton elegant sari, Saula Centa Valente wore the perfect black tunic top with gold embellishment and a mang tika (a head-piece worn on the parting of the hair). Also looking fabulous: Mehranz Gill, Gabriela Dror, Divya Brown, Vibhu and Shreela Sharma, Lisa Gochman, John E Bradshaw and others.
