Fashionista of the Month | Mandy Kao
It was the Chanel Holiday party where Mandy Kao caught the attention of Indo American Society News Magazine Lights Camera Action. She is the true personification of Style and Diva and no stranger to Houstonians. For several years she has been hosting high profile gala and charity events to benefit the Mandy Kao Foundation that focuses on serving as a bridge by offering matching grants to non-profit agencies who are already assisting the vulnerable and under-served populations.
She is undauntedly a fashion icon someone who is not scared to experiment with color and style. She perfectly wore a tiara at her party and the source of her inspiration is Chanel.
Why is Chanel your favorite?
I admire Chanel because she was smart, strong and business savvy. In her time, she achieved enormous success and even revolutionized fashion by replacing stiff corsets with suits, dresses, trousers and perfume. This not only empowered women to choose what to wear, but to wear what they really love.
I live by many of Chanel’s quotes because being a strong business woman myself; her philosophies in life are especially relevant and motivating. My favorite quote from Chanel is: “A girl should be two things- classy and fabulous.”
What is Mandy’s style statement?
Chanel helped women feel powerful, yet feminine at the same time. And that is my style. I like to wear soft feminine pieces mixed in with a bit of edginess. I am a girly girl at heart but I can be tough if I need to be. So, it is really fun to balance the ying and the yang.
Mandy loves the key pieces of Chanel: The little black dress, the quilted bag, the pearls, and Chanel No 5 perfume. These are all MANDY, but she will not wear them all at the same time unless it is her very own Chanel theme party!
“I will wear pearls with jeans and a T-shirt. If I wear a silky casual dress, I may wear a big classic Chanel bag with flats. When I wear a little black dress, I will wear it without the pearls and pair it with thigh high chunky boots and jewelry”, added Kao.
Most importantly Mandy believes to wear what she loves and what makes her happy. “That is what I call Chanel-inspired,” states Mandy Kao.
