The BlackFinn Experience
Food Finds
It’s the holiday season and if you have been wondering about new places to dine out with friends and family then Blackfinn should be in your wish list. Whether you have been naughty or nice, at this newly opened restaurant everyone gets a warm Texas size greeting.
An over whelming 11,000 square feet with an expansive covered patio fronting Pierce Street, the concept and space is remarkably different from anything in Midtown or Houston, for that matter. While touring this beautifully wood floored vintage inspired restaurant I was impressed by the value-focused menu and exceptional dining experience. It is a casual yet very sophisticated, multi-room environment featuring four distinct and complementary atmospheres: The Grille Room, The Saloon, The Dining Room and The Patio.
My experience at Blackfinn started with a Dragon Berry Mojito a refreshing potent lime flavor with a sugarcane stick. As I sipped my drink, Blackfinn Operating Partner Ralph Matthews shared some of his exciting restaurant anecdotes and his favorite dishes. “At BlackFinn we are polished casual with unique menus giving our customers a very special experience with different rooms with a sense of privacy and at the same time a party fervor,” explains Ralph.
BlackFinn’s menu is filled with American classics adding new concepts with many developed specifically for Houston and made with locally-sourced ingredients. My treat were the signature items from the appetizers, the BlackFinn Crab Tower and Blackened Brie, both leaving a lingering affect, however I am totally going back for the blackened brie that was paired with toasted bread with cranberry chutney.
Along with some interesting names the menu provided twists to the usual and one may want to try: Southern Nachos with barbequed pulled pork in the entrees section, Shrimp & Grits, and the ceviche with mango, pineapple and strawberry made it very difficult for me to stop munching. The sea bass was my top pick, it was done perfectly to melt in your mouth. The menu is very efficiently put together as it also features a number of large and small salads, chicken, seafood, and beef options, pastas, burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads all served fresh till 2AM unlike any other restaurant in Houston.
We concluded the evening with a BlackFinn Hot Chocolate, which is for sure a devil’s food with fallen chocolate with peanut butter souffle served warm with vanila ice cream and a caramel drizzle and pineapple upside down carrot cake with a cream cheese whipped cream, very unique and yummy.
Well those who are still planning for a NYE party idea, BlackFinn has a Roaring Twenties party both at The Saloon and also at The Dinning Room which will give you the full holiday affect with a fire place and vibrant photographs, reflecting the city and its history.
The restaurant is inviting and intimate, both approachable and appropriate for everyday dining and special occasions.
Happy Dining and Happy Holiday!
