Houston Takes Fashion By Storm!
Society with Ruchi
Now that we feel the nip in the weather let’s fall in love with fall and for all good reasons. The much awaited Fashion Houston Week 2011 is almost here. October 10-13th 2011 will welcome back the second annual Fashion Houston, this will be a four day extravaganza with an abundance of fashion at the Wortham Center in downtown Houston.
President/Founder of Fashion Houston Week Jared Lang gave us a sneak peak to this upcoming event. The concept is very similar to New York Fashion Week, but then how many people can actually be part of that? “The idea is to keep the revenue in Houston,” explains Jared, “this is all about Houston designers and to recognize Houston as the fashion destination as a lot of revenue is spent here on clothes by our very own Houstonians,” he says.
Started in 2010 by philanthropist and visionary Jared Lang, Fashion Houston has been embraced by the fashion loving community of Houston as well as the international fashion community. An important goal is to bring the international fashion into the spotlight.
The best part about Fashion Houston Week is that it is not about buyers unlike Milan and New York. The show is all about experiencing fashion and being able to indulge in the runway experience. “I have attended New York and Milan Fashion Week’s and had a great time, and so it occurred to me to have something similar in Houston,” says Lang.
This years designers are amongst the most recognized, creating plenty of ripples in the fashion world: Robert Rodriguez, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Project 360, Czar by Cesar Gallino, Douglas Hannant, Jerri Moore, Barbara Tfank, Aries Milan, Camilla Franks, Fabiola Arias, Bibhu Mohapatra, Norman Ambrose and Project Runway’s Chloe Dao.
Ceron Hair Studio and Laura Mercier Makeup will provide all hair and makeup for the shows, with their top artists working alongside the designers to bring their visions to life.
In addition to shows there will be exclusive designer trunk shows produced by Fashion Houston partners Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Tootsies, a complete integration of the high fashion and the retail experiences.
Now the big question is What To Wear?

According to socialite, philanthropist and host of many fashion events Lauren Pray:
My style is all about being comfortable and stylish at the same time. I love everything by Los Angeles based designer Naven. Their designs are loud, but classy and always set the style before they become trends.
Color blocking style: Color-blocking has been everywhere and what better way to start fall out then with bright colored pieces together. This look is for the girl who wants to go bold and be seen. Not ready to put yourself out there? Go for a more neutral color like black or white.

Cut it out: Cut-out’s are huge on the runway. This shows the perfect amount of skin and the long sleeves give it a more classy look.

- Smoky Metallic Eyes – rim the eyes with smudgy black liner, cover the lower lid with a charcoal or dark grey eyeshadow and top off with a touch of metallic loose pigment for a smoldering eye that stands out from the rest of the crowd. Copper and bronze shades are particularly flattering for most women.
- Matte Lips in Floral Shades – intense lip shades add volume and sizzling impact, keep the rest of the face neutral and under-stated and allow your lips to take center stage! The lip defines your look – it is the ultimate accessory.
- Strong Defined Eyebrows – use a shade of powder or a pencil that is slightly darker than your own natural hair color and define your arch and fill in sparse areas for the ultimate in attention-grabbing eyes…. perfected brows truly make the face.
