Bollywood Night For A Cause

Party Like the ‘Movie Stars’! More than hundred people gathered for the Bollywood themed costume party Ode To Bollywood on Saturday March 26, 2011 at the very spacious M Lounge at Moghul Restaurant all the way in the west part of HTown. Guests walked the red carpet dressed up like Bollywood movie stars from the 60s to the present. The very enthusiastic DJ SAMIA charmed the crowd in a tangerine red hot evening gown with smoky eyes and glossy lips, interpreting the 80s ‘Disco look’. The guests danced to her music till wee hours supporting local South Asian Lights Camera Action/TV Asia Journalist Ruchi Mukherjee who has been nominated for the 2011 Man/Woman of the Year Campaign for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited ten-week fundraising competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s ‘Man & Woman of the Year’ titles, by raising funds and awareness for blood cancer research. Guests did take the costume party very seriously. Amongst the best dressed list Farida Hasanali as Umrao Jaan, Shyam Pillai as Karan Johar, Anu Nagasimha as the 60s Sharmila Tagore, Elizabeth Swim as the ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ girl, David Raj in a sophisticated yet dressy outfit, Kalyani Giri and Krishna Giri portrayed the Vyjayanthimala and Shammi Kapoor look. Stunningly clad in sari’s were Nara Lakhani, Anahita Desai, and Shradha Desai Salvi. The boys looked graceful in their sherwanis and Kurta’s. Barani Krishnan charmed the ladies with his Shahruk Khan look from the movie ‘Pheli’. Jay Mehta was rocking in a blue sherwani as John Abraham.

Amongst the judges were Mahesh Mahbubani, Tanaz Choudhry and Shefali Tejani.

The Winners:
Farida Hasanali for Best Dressed Female as Umrao Jaan
Shyam Pillai for Best Dressed Male as Karan Jhohar

The winners received tickets for the Rahat Fatheh Ali Concert sponsored by Rehan Siddqui, Best Dressed Male & Female got free Bollywood classes for a month sponsored by Arzan Gonda of Rhythm India and Mahesh Mahbubani, Director for Bollywood Fusion/Indian Contemporary Dance.

Overall a very filmy party with music, belly dancing, and great food.
