Gather For Charity
Socialites, social workers, and professionals gathered at El Meson restaurant on University Boulevard for a small reception on Tuesday February 22, 2011. The party was hosted by The Rotary Club to celebrate the success of a fundraiser event benefiting the girls’ school in Piyali Junction, West Bengal, India. The Rotary Club of University Area has nearly 50 members and only two are of Indian origin. This fundraising event was unique because it was organized by an American group of people who went out of their way to support a worthy cause in a village in India. It was not a very elaborate event but the idea was to mix, mingle, and talk about their forthcoming rotary projects like polio eradication. PACE was established in 2003 as a California non-profit Corporation with goals to nurture the educational, health, social and cultural development of girls in impoverished areas of India and other parts of the world.
The evening spotted high profiles like Susan Boggio ABC 13 Woman of Distinction 2011, a philanthropist who works extensively for PACE. Also present Shubhra Ghosh a Rotarian and the Chair of this fundraising event committee, Bob Schamus President RCUAH (Rotary Club of University Area Houston), Dr. A J Saper, Irene Hickey, Bill Baker, Jay Taylor and Jerry Harris. Friends of Susan Boggio Archana and Kajol Roy, and Dick Willingham enjoyed the evening as El Meson owner Peter Garcia entertained his guests with his selection of red and white wines and appetizers.
